Guides
Print buying guides and checklists
Short, practical print buying guides help you pick the right paper, print method, banner or packaging before you order. Use them to prepare a clear brief and avoid paying for options your job does not need.
- Plain-language advice
- Compare your options
- Brief checklist

The five-point print buying brief checklist
- What is it? Product and finished size.
- How many? Total quantity, and sizes or versions if there are several.
- Where will it be used? Indoors, outdoors, handed out, worn or displayed.
- When do you need it? A fixed date, not just soon.
- What artwork exists? Print-ready, rough or none.
Send these with the quote form and most jobs can be quoted without back-and-forth.
Choosing paper and finish
| Use | Typical direction | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Handouts and flyers | Lighter coated paper | Light to carry, takes colour well |
| Business cards | Heavier board, matte or gloss | Feels solid in the hand |
| Brochures and booklets | Mid-weight text with heavier cover | Flexible pages, firm front |
| Posters | Gloss or satin poster paper | Holds colour from a distance |
Exact weights and finishes are confirmed on the quote. See flyers and business cards.
Which garment print method suits your order
| Method | Often suits | Keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| DTF | Full-colour designs, short to medium runs | Good on many fabrics |
| Screen printing | Larger runs with few colours | Set-up per colour |
| DTG | Detailed designs on cotton, small runs | Best on suitable fabrics |
| Sublimation | All-over or full-colour on polyester | Needs light polyester items |
| Embroidery | Logos on caps, polos, workwear | Fine detail is limited |
Our T-shirt printing page goes into more depth, and we confirm the recommended method on your quote.
Banners: pull-up, PVC or flag
A pull-up banner is best for indoor, repeat use: events, reception, retail. A PVC banner suits outdoor hanging or fixing on a wall or fence. Flags catch attention at a distance and suit events or forecourts. Say where it goes and for how long and we will suggest the right one.
Planning your timeline
Work back from your deadline. Allow time for the quote, for artwork changes, for approval and payment, then production and finishing, then collection or delivery. Rush options exist for many products, but they depend on capacity, job size, approved artwork, payment and a confirmed deadline. The earlier you start, the more choice you have.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I start if I know nothing about print?
Start with the brief checklist above and send it in. We will ask about anything missing and suggest suitable options in the quote.
Can I compare two options in one quote?
Yes. Ask for two specifications, for example different paper or print methods, and we will set them out side by side.
Do you give advice on files?
Yes. See the artwork guidelines, or send your file and we will tell you whether it is suitable.
